If like me you avoid the pop products thrown at a gullible public, you'd also be unfamiliar with the sugar-pop songs of Justin Bieber. Made as a fan film, this glimpse at how a Canadian kid got discovered on YouTube by Scooter Braun and rising to become the most followed person on Twitter is actually quite an interesting watch (if you can sit through the several concert songs littered across the movie, that is). The fact that he is a natural and can play guitar and drums gives him added kudos.
A mix of a concert film, documentary and behind-the-scenes biopic, the movie is wrapped around the huge landmark of Bieber's sold out performance at New York's Madison Square Garden, looking at the regular kid who became a superstar, the artists and record company people guiding his way. At first no-one was really interested with his songs not making the radio, resulting in his management taking him on the road to visit radio stations and sing live on air accompanied by his guitar.
Some of the known names joining Justin on stage includes Usher, Mylie Cyrus, Boys II Men, Sean Kingston, and Will & Jada's annoying wise-ass kid Jaden (who believes that because daddy's a rapper, so is he – not).
Still young and stupid in a teenage sense, Bieber has talent and will hopefully one day find his place as an authentic artist and not just a teen money spinner.
(The fact that its theatrical released was in 3D kind of highlights how this technology has swiftly been reduced to a full-on ticket sale boost gimmick).
Extras include such earth shaking bonus material like a dance-off with Justin and his dancers, and the revelation of his hair flip being snipped(!)
